Annual Health Assessments for Patients Over 75

An Annual Health Assessment is available for all patients over the age of 75. It is a valuable opportunity to review your physical, psychological, and social well-being, and discuss any concerns with your doctor.

  • Regular health checks help detect early signs of potential health issues.
  • Our doctors will review your medical history, family history of diseases, and lifestyle factors such as diet, weight, physical activity, alcohol consumption, and smoking habits.

Health Screening Recommendations

  • Blood Pressure – If you’re under 40 with normal blood pressure and no family history of high blood pressure, it’s recommended to have your blood pressure checked every two years. If you’re over 40, have slightly elevated blood pressure, or have a personal or family history of high blood pressure, stroke, or heart attack, you should get it checked annually. Always follow your doctor’s advice.
  • Blood Tests – These tests check cholesterol levels, blood triglycerides, and other indicators of health. Elevated levels can signal an increased risk of conditions like heart disease. If you’re over 45, it’s recommended to have these tests every five years. For those at high risk, or with a family history of heart disease, annual testing is recommended starting at age 40.
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG) – An ECG is a painless, non-invasive test that detects heart abnormalities by measuring the electrical activity during heart contractions.
  • Obesity Tests – Being overweight increases your risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Have your doctor check your body mass index (BMI) and waist measurement every two years, or more frequently if you’re at higher risk.

Everyone aged 45 and over (or 30 for Aboriginal people) should have regular 20 minute heart health checks with their GP to evaluate risks of heart attack or stroke.
